MR. AFOLABI, JOHN OLADELE (DIRECTOR TRANSMISSION SYSTEM)

Mr. Afolabi, John Oladele was born in November, 1957. He hails from the western side of Nigeria Ekiti State. 1979 to 1983 he attended Higher Institute of Mechanical / Electrical Engineering, Varna, Bulgaria. 1972 to 1976 Ilesha Grammar School, Ilesha, Osun State. 1963 to 1968 St James Anglican School, Ila via Ilesha, Osun State.

His academic qualifications are March, 1983 Masters of Science in Mechanical Production Engineering. July, 1976 West African School Certificate – Division One. December, 1968 Primary School Leaving Certificate

Professional Qualifications are 1992 Member Nigerian Society of Engineers and Council on Regulation of Engineering In Nigeria (COREN)

(Mechanical Engineer II) Pupilage Training in Nigeria Railway Corporation and Central Workshop, Ijora, Lagos. 1983 to 1984: Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Polytechnic, Ibadan.

His awards are Federal Ministry of Works Merit  Award of Excellence  in  1994 and Lenin Award for Outstanding Engineering Student, Bulgaria   in  1980

His achievements are Installation of Asphalt Plant, Osogbo, Osun State and Production and Installation of Bridge Railings, Eko Bridge, Lagos.

Other skills are Design and Construction of Industrial Production Machines and Foundry Production. His hobbies are Design and construction of Production Machines, Research and development on how things are made and reading Technological and Business Journals.

He is happily married with four Children.

 

FUNCTIONS OF THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM DEPARTMENT

Transmission

i.    Responsible to the Permanent Secretary and serve as the administrative Head of the Transmission Department;

ii.    Provide leadership for a multi-disciplinary team of professionals to develop policies, programs and projects for the development, operation and maintenance of the national grid;

iii.    Liaise with the Transmission Company of Nigeria to provide a periodic update of the nation’s Transmission Expansion Master Plan;

iv.    Provide technical guidance and advice to the Permanent Secretary on issues relating to the development and performance of the national grid;

v.    Liaise with the System Operator to ensure optimal dispatch of power, stable operation of the national grid and equitable access to investors;

vi.    Provide the leadership for the development of a robust, viable and efficient Market Operator;

vii.    Support the Transmission Company of Nigeria Plc in the development of bankable Project Documents for with a view to development under Public Private Partnership and/or Public Funding;

viii.    Liaise with relevant stakeholders to monitor development of new IPPs to ensure alignment of projects and programs;

ix.    Monitor the performance of investors granted concessions for the development of transmission infrastructure;

x.    Liaise with Development Finance Institutions for areas of possible collaboration in the transmission sector;

xi.    Any other assignment that may be decided by the Permanent Secretary
